Beacon Health System
State: IN Completed: 2016
Beacon Health System is a state of the art, energy efficient building that allows the occupants to feel energized when using the facility. This facility has a larger focus on rehabilitation and healthy living. Special care was taken by the architect and owner to build a facility that focused on rehabilitation and healthy lifestyle, while allowing the users to feel connected with the outside environment.
The interior space was framed with structural and architectural precast to prevent outside noise and vibration from HVAC equipment, yet allowed for large windows for the users to connect with the outside. Connections of the panels were located such that they would be hidden and not visible. This was done for both aesthetics as well as occupant comfort by allowing a smooth clean interior space finished with a warm and inviting color paint scheme.
The panels were carbon cast panels with edge-to-edge insulation and a formliner brick pattern. Panels were positioned on the building to allow for a pattern that was indistinguishable from real brick. Each brick was hand painted at the project site to mimic a hand laid brick style, which was a primary focus for the architect and owner.
The project included 7,300 square feet of 8" hollowcore at the elevated track area, and 23,000 square feet of 10" hollowcore roof plank to ensure vibrations of the HVAC equipment were not heard in the building. The pool was covered with nine 10'-0" wide double tees spanning 70'-0" and bearing on 14,000 square feet of 12" insulated composite wall panels utilizing carbon cast carbon fiber trusses to maintain a thermal and vapor barrier between the pool and other occupied spaces.
“You should be proud of your contribution as this project is the ICON of your strong commitment to meet and exceed owner expectations. Congratulations on a job well done!”
