Carpe Diem Charter School provides a new and innovative solution to education. The school focuses on individualized learning with an emphasis on technology based learning. Each student is equipped with a computer and much of their education is completed through it.
The main objective in the construction of this project was speed. The ground was broken on the building just a few days over 8 weeks prior to the first day of school. The whole project was completed top to bottom and the school was open for students right on schedule.
Kerkstra Precast’s precast wall panels, hollowcore floor plank and stair units helped speed up the process greatly. By producing the products ahead of time in a plant controlled environment, the products were ready for installation as soon as the site was cleared and the building was enclosed in less than a week allowing other trades to begin much sooner than with traditional construction methods.
I don’t think anyone thought it could be done. A nearly 20,000 square foot building on a very difficult site in 8 weeks, just 48 working days! Today was the first day of school and it went off without a hitch!
