Kirtland Community College Health Sciences building is a 57,000 square foot training center located in Grayling, Michigan. This is a completely new campus for Kirtland Community College. Kerkstra Precast provided insulated precast wall panels for the exterior of the building. Our panels were cast with reveals and a stacked stone pattern to provide an architectural feature on the exterior of the building. We used the interior side of our wall panels as the finished wall in many areas of the building. Electrical boxes and conduit were cast directly in so that surface mounting was not required. We also provided hollowcore plank as the floor system for the second floor.
Speed of erection played a big part in the success of the project, as a majority of the interior work was going to take place during the winter months. We were able to erect the precast in twenty calendar days in the month of November. The structural steel contractor followed directly behind us, putting the roof on the building so that the structure was enclosed allowing other trades to work in an insulated enclosed heated space. We finished out our portion of the work this spring by erecting the column covers at the entrance to the building. This was a great project that turned into a beautiful building.
"The speed and efficiency with which this building came together is phenomenal. Without Kerkstra Precast, this project would not have been completed in such a timely and cost efficient manner. The precast concrete they provided for Kirtland's new health sciences center in Grayling, Michigan, is a huge part of the overall success of the project.”
