Box BeamsBox Beams are an excellent choice for bridges due to the engineered weight bearing ability, and design flexibility. Box Beams are plant-fabricated, which provides excellent quality control and speeds up the construction process.

What are people saying about Kerkstra Precast’s Box Beams?
We completed a large bridge project McDevitt Road at US127 Jackson County, MI. Kerkstra Precast provided 36 prestressed concrete box beams for this project. They varied in length from 100 ft. to 106 ft. Each beam weighed around 53 tons. It only took 24 working hours over four days for all of the beams to be set. This shows how precast can save time on a job site. “Seeing all the beams on the deck really showed how attentive to detail the production crew was. All the rebar lined up row by row without any standouts to mar the scene”. -Zach Morrison, Lean Coordinator Transporting the beams to the jobsite required special night time travel permits. “Due to the tight time constraints to have US127 back open to traffic each morning by 6:00am and the uniqueness of the new post tensioning design, KP furnished the supervision and manpower each night during beam erection to install the post tensioning rods and hardware in order to facilitate and expedite erection of the box beams.” – Tom Grumbine, Bridge Engineer KP provided a separate crew to mix and pressure inject grout in each post tensioning duct after tensioning had been completed. |
