Heart of the City
State: Michigan Completed: 2011
Facing an over budget project with an already late design schedule, the design team of Heart of the City Health center turned to Kerkstra for a fresh perspective on their below grade parking structure. The project was designed as a cast-in-place concrete structure, with drawings close to complete. Kerkstra’s sales team took the drawings, re-configured them to accommodate precast concrete and designed an impressive 3D model to help the team visualize the parking structure when it was complete.
The 3D model was delivered with a price that matched their budget and a schedule that beat their projected completion date. The design team changed the project over to precast concrete and began the bidding process. Kerkstra was awarded the project and began fabricating the products right away.
This project consisted of over 17,000 square feet of structural precast wall panels, 600 linear feet of precast beams, 200 linear feet of precast columns, 117,000 square feet of precast double tees, 1 precast stair unit and 4,500 square feet of solid floor plank. The project was completed on time and on budget and serves as a great parking facility for the health center’s patients and staff.
"This was a difficult job that was made easy working with Kerkstra. Precast saved us 6 weeks, helping us get back on schedule!"
