The Detroit River needs your help. The Humbug Marsh is located near our Trenton Facility. Fundraising is taking place for the Wildlife Refuge School Ship Dock and Fishing Pier. Kerkstra Precast recently supported this cause and wanted to share the opportunity.
"The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is the only international refuge in North America, established as a result of binational efforts between the United States and Canada to build a sustainable future for the Detroit River and western Lake Erie ecosystems. The refuge consists of nearly 6,000 acres of habitat, including islands, coastal wetlands, marshes, shoals, and waterfront lands. Thanks to dramatic pollution prevention and cleanup efforts, the area has made one of the most impressive environmental recoveries, creating habitat areas for wildlife and recreational opportunities for the surrounding communities. A new visitor center under development will provide educational and interpretive displays and programs."
This project is raising money for to expand and have a learning environment for kids and the surrounding community.
"What is not fully funded is the school ship dock and fishing pier. It will be one of the premier attractions for hundreds of thousands of projected annual visitors to the Refuge. The dock will extend 700 feet into the river and connect to a 200-foot dike designed as a fishing pier. The waters surrounding Humbug Marsh boast a high diversity of fish species and are world famous as part of the "Walleye Capital of the World." This pier will offer a world-class, free, shore fishing experiences for all fishing enthusiasts to enjoy."
